This is an intermediate course. Students should be able to safely operate and handle their firearms without instruction.

These advanced handgun courses are designed to help responsible armed citizens build confidence, proficiency, and performance with their firearm systems. Training focuses on practical handgun application, firearm manipulation, marksmanship fundamentals, movement, communication, concealment, and performance under stress.

Courses are structured in progressive modules:

  • Module I focuses on reinforcing fundamentals and establishing baseline performance data.
  • Module II builds on those skills through more dynamic, performance-driven drills and practical application.

Instruction is led by experienced Phalanx Academy staff in a structured, safety-focused environment designed for students looking to strengthen both technical skills and defensive firearm competency.

Required Equipment

  • 1 serviceable handgun
    • Allowed calibers: 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, .357 SIG, or 10mm
    • Firearms chambered under 9mm are not permitted
    • Sig Sauer P320 pistols are not permitted
  • Minimum of 3 serviceable handgun magazines
  • Strong-side outside-the-waistband holster
  • Support-side outside-the-waistband magazine pouch
  • Eye protection
  • Hearing protection
    • Electronic hearing protection is strongly recommended
  • Appropriate weather-ready apparel
  • Water
  • Prescription medication (if needed)

Recommended Equipment

  • Spare batteries for electronic equipment (hearing protection, flashlights, optics, etc.)
  • Tools for servicing or adjusting equipment
  • Gloves (recommended for MOD II & III)
  • Elbow pads (recommended for MOD II & III)
  • Knee pads (recommended for MOD II & III)
  • Rain or snow gear, depending on weather conditions
  • Note pad and pen
  • Cold lunch and snacks
